Le Potazzine Gorelli Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG, Tuscany, Italy 2019

Le Potazzine is a true family affair, founded by Gigliola Giannetti in 1993, and which she now runs with her daughters, Viola and Sofia. Potazzine is local dialect for the “little birds” which adorn the label, as well as a term for children. The estate has just five hectares of vines, among the highest plots in Montalcino at 570 metres. The cool sites produce remarkably elegant Sangiovese, and Gigliola’s Brunellos retain freshness in even the hottest years. It’s an estate destined for greatness.
The 2019 Riserva from Le Potazzine is a standout—one of the finest expressions from their high-altitude vineyards. It combines concentration, elegance, and long-term cellaring potential in a beautifully balanced package. Its restrained power and perfumed complexity make it both immediately captivating and destined for graceful aging.
"The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva tempts the imagination, like cracking open an ashen stone to find a bevy of exotic spices, dried herbs, lavender, wild blueberries and zests of blood orange. Silky and serene, it floods the palate with elegant textures and hints of ripe red and black fruit. It takes on graphite mineral tones toward the close as a bump of residual acidity maintains fantastic freshness. This stains the palate in residual concentration yet leaves the mouth watering for more. It is structured yet lively and fresh, with lingering notes of licorice, red plum, dark chocolate and currant." Vinous 98+
